Wide-Format Printing: When You Need It Big

Wide-Format Printing: When You Need It Big

“Wide-format” or “large-format” printing covers anything bigger than what a typical office printer can produce — generally, prints larger than 24 inches on the short side. The technology behind it has improved dramatically and the cost has dropped. Today, wide-format jobs that used to require expensive specialty shops are routine. Here’s the rundown on when and why to go big.

Posters and event graphics

For trade shows, conferences, exhibitions, retail displays — wide-format posters in sizes from 18×24 up to 60×96 or larger create instant impact. Matte or gloss laminate finishes protect against handling. Mounted to foamcore for rigid display, or printed on heavyweight paper for hanging.

Indoor banners and pull-up displays

Retractable banner stands hold a printed wide-format banner that pulls up from a base unit. They’re light, portable, and reusable across events. The graphic itself is replaceable — the stand is a long-term asset. Standard sizes are 33×80 and 36×84.

Wall murals and large-scale wall graphics

For office reception areas, restaurant walls, retail interiors, conference rooms — wide-format wall murals turn a blank wall into a designed environment. Printed on adhesive vinyl in multiple panels, installed by us. Bold brand statements, hospitality imagery, custom artwork — the medium handles all of it.

Window perfs and floor graphics

Perforated window film for storefronts (covered in an earlier post). Floor decals printed on slip-resistant vinyl with anti-slip laminate for retail wayfinding, event traffic flow, and floor advertising. Both are wide-format applications that go in places traditional print never could.

Architectural and construction signage

Construction site banners, parking lot signs, building wraps during renovation. Wide-format printed on heavy-duty vinyl and grommeted for outdoor use, sometimes mounted to backerboard for rigid installation.

Fine art and giclée reproductions

For artists, photographers, and galleries, wide-format printing on archival paper produces gallery-quality reproductions. Color accuracy and resolution at large size make these viable for fine art sales.

Vehicle wraps and large vinyls

Full vehicle wraps and large vehicle decals are wide-format applications. Special vehicle-grade vinyls with conformable backing and air-release adhesive make complex installations possible.

Material choices matter

Wide-format outputs to many different materials: standard banner vinyl, mesh banner, fabric (for matte trade-show display), adhesive vinyl (for windows, walls, vehicles), foam board (for rigid display), photo paper, fine art paper, canvas. Pick the material based on use — we’ll guide you.
