Why Great Business Cards Still Matter in 2026

Why Great Business Cards Still Matter in 2026

Every January we hear the same thing from new clients: “Are business cards still a thing? Doesn’t everyone just exchange phone numbers?” The honest answer is yes — and they matter more than they did ten years ago. Here’s why.

A business card is the only marketing you hand someone directly

Think about how marketing usually works. You pay for an ad, you hope someone sees it, you hope they remember. A business card skips all of that. You meet someone, you hand them something tangible with your name and number on it, and they keep it in their wallet or on their desk. That moment of human contact is the most efficient marketing dollar you’ll spend all year.

The quality of the card is the quality of the company

Hand someone a flimsy, thin card from an office supply store kit and they make a snap judgment. Hand them a heavyweight matte card with a soft-touch coating and clean typography, and they make a very different snap judgment. The card doesn’t have to be expensive — it has to feel intentional. Stock weight, finish, color, and even the corners (square or rounded) all signal something about how you run your business.

Cards that work harder than just contact info

The best business cards we print do more than list a phone number. They include a QR code linking to a portfolio or scheduling page. They double as appointment reminders for a salon. They have a discount code printed on the back. For restaurants and retailers, we’ve printed cards that double as loyalty punch cards. The card becomes a piece of useful infrastructure, not just a name tag.

What to think about before you reprint

If you’re due for a reorder, take ten minutes before you place it. Is your logo still current? Is the phone number on the card the one that actually rings to a real person? Does the design still look like you, or like the version of your business from three years ago? A reprint is the cheapest time to do a small redesign.

A great card costs a few cents per impression. The bad ones cost you customers you’ll never know you lost.
