Every day, your work truck sits in someone’s driveway, drives down Main Street, parks at the supply store, idles at a red light. Each one of those moments is an impression. A well-designed vehicle graphic turns your vehicles from transportation into a marketing channel that earns its cost back many times over. Here’s what makes vehicle graphics work.
The drive-by test
The single most important thing about vehicle graphics is that someone driving the other way at 35 mph needs to know three things in about a second and a half: what you do, who you are, and how to contact you. That’s the whole brief. Anything more and the design fails.
Phone number gets top billing
Counter-intuitive but true: the phone number should be the largest, most readable element. Bigger than the logo. Bigger than the tagline. Why? Because someone who sees your truck and wants to call you needs to remember the number or write it down in a hurry. Make it impossible to miss.
Vinyl wraps vs. cut vinyl decals
Full vehicle wraps cover most or all of the vehicle in printed vinyl and look completely custom — they’re appropriate for businesses where the truck is part of the brand. Cut vinyl decals are individual letters and shapes applied directly — much more affordable and very effective for tradespeople, plumbers, electricians, landscapers, anyone whose name and number need to be visible. Both have their place.
What lasts and what doesn’t
Good cast vinyl with proper application lasts 5-7 years in the New England climate. Cheap calendared vinyl starts to crack and fade in 2-3. The application matters as much as the material — bubbles, lifting edges, and bad alignment all show. Pay for quality once instead of redoing it twice.
Match the design to the vehicle
A box truck has different surface area than a pickup. A van’s side panel is the prime real estate. A trailer behind your work truck is often more readable than the truck itself because it’s flat and at eye level. We design around the specific vehicle, not just slap a logo on it.
If your vehicles aren’t earning their keep as marketing channels, let’s talk. We design and apply vehicle graphics that turn drive time into ad time.
