It sounds like an old-fashioned claim. Digital advertising is everywhere, hyper-targeted, infinitely scalable. A piece of corrugated plastic in someone’s yard? How could that possibly compete? But year after year, our clients in real estate, political campaigns, home services, and local events tell us the same thing: yard signs work, and they work harder than the cost suggests.
The math of attention
A digital ad gets a fraction of a second of attention, often while the viewer is actively trying to ignore it. A yard sign on a corner gets seen every single day by every single driver and pedestrian who passes that corner — sometimes for weeks. The cumulative impression count is enormous and the cost-per-impression beats almost any digital channel.
Location is the targeting
Digital ads target demographics and interests. Yard signs target geography, which for most local businesses is the targeting that actually matters. A “We Buy Houses” sign at a busy intersection in a target neighborhood reaches exactly the homeowners you want to reach. A real estate sign in front of a listing reaches every neighbor who might be next.
What makes a yard sign work
Big text. Limited words. High contrast colors. Phone number in larger type than anything else. That’s the formula. The temptation to add a logo, a tagline, an address, a website, three services, and decorative graphics is what makes signs fail. The driver has two seconds to read it. Give them the one thing that matters and a way to call you.
Material and durability
4mm corrugated plastic (Coroplast) is the standard. It survives weather, holds color well in sun for several months, and stakes mount cleanly to it. For long-term signs (more than a season), we recommend a heavier 6mm or 10mm. H-stakes work for most ground installations.
Pair them with everything else you do
The sign isn’t a standalone marketing channel — it’s a phone-number-distribution device. Make sure the number on the sign rings somewhere that gets answered, and that whoever picks up knows what the sign campaign is.
Yard signs are cheap, effective, and underused. We can print, design, and have them ready faster than you’d expect.
