You’ve paid for the booth space. You’ve blocked off two days of your team’s time. You’ve shipped boxes of product samples cross-country. The one thing you don’t want is a booth that nobody walks into. Trade show graphics make or break the foot traffic you’ll get. Here’s what works.
Design for the long view, not the close read
People are looking at your booth from across the aisle, sometimes 40-50 feet away. If your headline isn’t readable from that distance, you’ve already lost them. Big type, high contrast, and one clear message you want people to remember. Save all the detail for the brochures on the table.
Have one focal point
The biggest mistake we see is booths covered floor-to-ceiling in equal-weight graphics. Where does the eye go? Nowhere — and a confused eye walks past. Pick one main panel as your focal point. Big visual, big headline, clear pitch. Everything else supports.
Modular pays off
If you do more than one show a year, invest in modular pop-up displays rather than custom booth-specific signage. A good 10×10 pop-up backdrop can be reused for years across different shows and different events. The per-show cost goes down every time you reuse it.
Banner stands at the entry points
Retractable banner stands placed at the booth corners pull people in from the aisle. They’re cheap, light, and easy to ship. A pair of banner stands flanking your booth with your strongest value props is one of the highest-ROI trade show investments you can make.
Don’t forget the floor
Floor graphics — vinyl decals stuck directly to the show floor — can pull attention to your booth from people whose eyes are aimed down. They’re not right for every show, but in busy expos they cut through.
The give-away strategy
Whatever you hand out should reinforce what your graphics already said. A trade show is a few-second touchpoint; the printed piece they take home is what does the followup work.
